The $1,199 Series 7 and $749 Series 5 tablets run on Windows 8 and will be available starting October
You most probably associate Samsung with the Galaxy series when it comes to tablets, but the company has actually been working on Windows tablets, as well. After giving us a glimpse of the device at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show, Samsung has finally revealed the details of its Series 5 and Series 7 Slate PCs.
Both devices run on Windows 8, feature detachable keyboards ?? la Microsoft Surface and Lenovo's ThinkPad Tablet 2, and sport 11.6-inch displays. Series 7 is the more high-end version of the two, with a higher screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, an Intel Core i5 processor and 4GB of RAM that suggest speedy performance, and a 128GB SSD for storage. Series 5, on the other hand has a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, 2GB of RAM, and 64GB SSD. They will also come with the Samsung S Pen, a stylus which, until now, has been mostly associated with the Galaxy Note devices.
Series 7's advanced set of features, however, come at a premium ? the device?will set you back a cool $1,199. The more reasonably priced Series 5 will be sold with a keyboard dock for $749 or without for $649, which are comparable to the prices of the new iPad with 4G connection. Both Series 5 and Series 7 Slate PCs will be available starting October 26.
