SILVIS, Ill. - The Marian University men's golf team turned in a third-place finish after the opening day of the 2012 NAIA Midwest Fall Invitational at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., on Monday.
The Knights shot a 14-over par 298 to sit in third just six shots out of the top spot with 18 holes remaining on Tuesday.
Senior Trey Pfund sits in second place after the opening round. Pfund shot a two-under par 69 to open the tournament. He went out with a 32 and came back with a 37 on the back nine.
Senior Mac Fiely is tied for ninth after he shot a three-over par 74 (35-39), while freshman Spencer King sits tied for 21st after he shot a 76 (36-40).
Junior Evan Day carded a first-round 79 (40-39) to sit in a tie for 39th, while freshman Zach Muench carded an 80 (46-34) to sit tied for 45th place after 18 holes.
The Knights will close the 2012 NAIA Midwest Fall Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
