New Nokias to feature wireless charging

2 hrs.

Nokia's new Lumia handsets, rumored to be announced later?this week, will be equipped with wireless charging capability, according to images leaked on?Tuesday. Additional details also emerged regarding the devices' screens and cameras.

The image, posted to?the anonymous Twitter account @evleaks, was just one of several showing the new handsets. Few companies are immune to the leak of promotional materials before an announcement, and Nokia is no exception; most of the specs and features will come as no surprise when the phones are officially announced.

Nokia's?wireless charging technique is rumored to be part of the Qi standard, which is already offered in a few phones at Verizon and some non-U.S. carriers. The system would use small charging pads on which the user would place the phone for a trickle of power ? not quite what you'd get from a plug, but still significant.

The Verge claims to have confirmed a few more details about the latest in Nokia's line of Windows Phone devices: the Lumia 920 will indeed have an HD 4.5-inch display and an 8-megapixel camera that will be called "Pureview" like the earlier 45-megapixel camera on the Nokia's 808 handset.?It will also have wireless charging built in, and 32GB of storage space.

The Lumia 820 will, as we have heard previously, have a smaller 4.3-inch screen and only 8GB of internal storage, though it will have a Micro SD slot for adding space. It won't have wireless charging built in, but one of its features will be swappable back plates, one or more of which will add that feature in.

Nokia is expected to make its Lumia announcement at a joint event with Microsoft on Wednesday. We'll be reporting live from Nokia World Wednesday morning starting at 10 a.m. Eastern time.
