Cancer survivor to repay Macmillan with charity gig at Cradley club

A ONE man band whose singing career was abruptly halted when he was diagnosed with throat cancer is back making music and staging a charity variety show in Cradley.

After 35 years of performing in shows, on cruises and around the world Brian T Williams, from Colley Gate , was struck down by the disease in 2009.

But after treatment at Wolverhampton?s New Cross Hospital he is now in remission and eager to repay Macmillan Cancer Support for their help during the worst time.

For the last six months the 62-year-old has been playing bass with local band Beechwood, which also features Niven Smith, from Blackheath , and Chris Johnson, from Stourbridge.

The band will play at his charity gala night of comedy and music at the Cradley Sports and Social Club on Thursday October 4.

Also on the bill are five top acts, comedian Ollie Spencer, whose TV credits include The Comedians and Tizwas, guitarist and instrumentalist Ian Lockyer, comedy ventriloquist Paul Levent, female vocalist Vivi Caan and acoustic guitarist and vocalist Jeff Maybury All the artistes are performing for free and the concert will start at 8pm. Food will be available and there will be a raffle for the charity.
