Cars are not cheap to buy and once that initial cost has been paid out for ownership you then have many other expenses to consider. Fuel, servicing, MOTS, insurance the list is endless. Because of this never ending list of expenses I have put together some tips on how to save money for car owners.
Fuel
Petrol and diesel are vastly becoming one of many households biggest out goings. Unfortunately it looks like the price of fuel is not going to lower any time soon so it is important that people save money where they can. Many supermarkets have offers in their shops, where you have to spend a certain amount of money in store and they will reward you with a discount at their petrol stations. I always try to use the same supermarket and petrol station as many of the main contenders have loyalty schemes. Remember the slogan ?every little helps?? It?s true; you might as well be collecting loyalty points which in turn you can claim back.
Servicing
Regular servicing of a vehicle is very important for two reasons. Firstly, it keeps the price of your car high for when you come to sell the vehicle. Potential buyers want to know the service history and that the vehicle has been well maintained and cared for. Service history is a way in which you can prove this and you will be surprised at how much value it will add to your car when you come to sell. Secondly, having your car serviced keeps the car in good health. This will ward of any major issues with the car because the service will detect any problems and in turn save you money with any huge garage bills. Also regular servicing has proven a way in which you can keep your fuel bill down. A healthy car uses less petrol.
MOT
Regular servicing should mean low MOT costs because the service should detect any issues and keep the car running in good order. Unfortunately MOTS are compulsory for cars after a certain age, so they need to be done. However, there are many garages that offer MOTS and servicing combined at a discounted rate. Also shop around and ask family and friends who they have used before, it is important to use a reputable garage.
Insurance
Insurance is a legal necessary for drivers and unfortunately like fuel the cost of insurance has risen significantly for many of us. Saving money on insurance however can be easier than you realise. Your insurance company will offer you a quote to re-new, however do not be afraid to call them and ask for a reduction. They will always give you the top price and it?s up to you to negotiate it down. Also I would always advise to shop around, the company offering the best deal last year might not be now. Look around and get as many quotes as you can. Always work on they assumption ?every extra year you have driven your insurance should reduce?.
Owning, running and the up keep of a vehicle is not cheap and can also be time consuming. I hope these tips can save you money over the next year. And remember safe driving!
